www.warcraft3.com It was the unofficial forum for fans of the eponymous game. It was used to organize online gaming but the "Off Topic" section was by far the most popular board. I lived a lot of my early high-school social life there, developing an online persona through posting, sharing music interests, latching on to silly micromemes and idiolects, using photoshop to make custom profile pictures and in-line image signatures for other members. For me this occurred between 2003-2006, before it was very common to share pictures of oneself over the internet (though there were occasional nerve-racking threads made for this, filled with fuzzy webcam shots and excruciating childish criticism). When the website domain went down the membership broke off into smaller factions, and there's still a small private community I visit occasionally, which has itself been around for over 10 years, though the bustle and vibrancy of (and my personal impressionability during) the warcraft3.com experience has always made the followup feel secondary in comparison.
